The Financial Training Academy achieves the authorised and approved
Edexcel Centre status. Edexcel is a London based for-profit company and
one of England, Wales and Northern Ireland's five main examination
boards.
Its name is a portmanteau word derived from the words "educational" and
"excellence".
Edexcel offers a variety of qualifications to UK students, including
A-levels, GCSEs and the BTEC suite of vocational qualifications. It is
an international organisation, awarding over 1.5 million accreditations
per year.
What does it mean for The Financial Training Academy?
Coming from an established corporate/commercial background of offering
professional courses and qualifications, we are now proud to be
associated with the existing national system of the NVQ and thus the
iTQ. The new Centre will provide opportunities to offer a broader
spectrum of qualifications and at a higher level, and this includes the
customised qualification – the BTEC Advanced Diploma in
Competency for Mortgage Advice.
What does it mean for our students?
Learning new skills; adding another string to your bow; enhancing your
employability; giving you a qualification from one of the
UK’s
leading accrediting bodies.
What does it mean for the employer?
With the iTQ having been prevalent in the workplace for the last three
years, employers recognise these qualifications and have already
embraced the flexibility involved within the modular structure of the
iTQ programme. Effectively, the iTQ can be customised to provide the
candidate with the knowledge and skills that the employer requires, in
this case, Mortgage Advice.
The Edexcel courses that are offered at The Financial Training Academy
are:
The customised programme, namely BTEC advance Diploma in Competency for
Mortgage
Advice QAN Number: M9260, and the employed-led programme, Mortgage Back
Office
Support Programme (an iTQ in IT Users Level 2)
QAN Number: 100/4217/9

Accreditation
of Training Excellence
The Financial Training Academy decided today to promote its quality
delivery of financial courses by applying for the Accreditation of
Training Excellence. Accredited by the Financial Services Skills
Council (FSSC), the scheme gives public recognition to firms,
providers, individuals and producers of training solutions who can show
that investment in training produces a solid business outcome.
The FSSC say ‘If you can demonstrate that your training
delivers results, you’ll want to make as much noise about it
as possible.’ Well, we do deliver, and we deliver quality,
and we want to tell the world. When piloted in 2004, the Accreditation
of Training Excellence for Firms scheme produced outstanding results
for Norwich Union Life. In producing evidence to meet the required
industry standard, the company was able to demonstrate a 24% increase
in self-generated appointments and an overall increase in sales
productivity of 27% in just five weeks.
Organisations achieving FSSC Accreditation will be listed on the FSSC
website and will be able to use the Accreditation Logo on company
materials and in their premises. This is an excellent way of
communicating our commitment to excellence in training to customers,
regulators, shareholders and staff.

New
National Skills Academy Visit To TFTA
We were proud and honored to have been visited by Sylvia Perrins, the
recently appointed first National Director for The National Skills
Academy for Financial Services.
The National Skills Academy for Financial Services received the
government go-ahead at a launch led by Prime Minister Tony Blair on 31
October 2006. The bid, led by the Financial Services Skills Council
(FSSC) and supported by a range of financial services employers, is one
of the first of the UK's new skills academies to be approved.
Sylvia will lead the Skills Academy as it launches in four regional
centres, based in London, Leeds, Manchester and Norwich. “I
am thrilled to be leading the National Skills Academy for Financial
Services as it will provide a real opportunity to meet the skill
shortages that the sector has identified,” she said.
“For employers it is often a challenge to attract and retain
a workforce with the right skills and attitude to contribute to future
business success. This agenda is at the heart of the National Skills
Academy and with employers’ support we will
succeed.”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to achieve a step
change in skills delivery for financial services, and to secure the
levels of public funding that it really deserves,” says FSSC
chief executive Teresa Sayers, who will sit on the national board of
the Skills Academy. “Sylvia’s background in both
education and in the commercial world as a financial consultant means
that she is well-placed to work closely with employers in the
development of this major initiative.”
Employers will be involved at every level of the Skills
Academy’s governance and funding.
